Late into the evening of Sunday May 20th 2018 I enjoyed nice views of the ISS as it passed north but in view of Hamilton Ontario. The same pass was observed a few minutes earlier by The Snowdog in Cashion OK, over 1000 miles to the SW. The ISS reached a max altitude of 71° over Cashion with a brightness magnitude of -3.2 (10:18 pm CDT). In Hamilton the ISS reached a max altitude of 49° with a brightness magnitude of -2.9 (11:22:23 PM EDT). Both passes were visible for just over 6 minutes. Despite the long distance between the two location, it is likely that the ISS was still visible to The Snowdog in Oklahoma (visible from 10:15:01 CDT to 10:21:26 CDT) when it first became visible to me in Ontario (visible from 11:19:13 EDT to 11:25:35 EDT)

Since I live in a bright sky preserve (apparently) and wasn't able to travel far away from the city lights for this viewing, I though I would try viewing over Lake Ontario which is only a couple kilometers from home. It was a beautiful night out, about 13° Celsius. Being a long weekend in Canada (Victoria Day), there was a lot of activity still at this late hour. From my location on the beach at Confederation Park I could see at least one bonfire a ways up the beach, and fireworks from a couple others spots as well

The ISS came up to the WNW and was difficult to see because I was looking towards a lot of city lighting. at first I though it was not going to be visible due to the light and the thin clouds. However the station appeared on schedule, and I first noticed it at 11:20 pm EDT, just a bit after it rose above 10°

The moon was bright and in the path of the ISS. The moon is the bright "ball" in the upper right in the top photo. Here is a closer view of the moon (taken after the ISS had passed):

Once the ISS moved away from the moon I enjoyed good views of it over Lake Ontario to the N and NE. I was able to follow the ISS until 11:25pm, at which point the ISS dropped below 10° altitude.

The view looking north over Lake Ontario. Compare the amount of light pollution to the photo above

Looking directly NNW, and a bit less exposure time. The lights show the shoreline of Lake Ontario, north across Hamilton Beach and then to the east through Burlington and Oakville

A screenshot from my phone, in lieu of the "GPSr photo". This was captured right after the ISS dropped out of view

Thank-you to 8Nuts MotherGoose for all the help and positive comments in the forums, and thank-you to The Snowdog for partnering with me on this ISS waymark
