Double Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. His first award was for action at Cedar Creek MT and other sites from October 1876 to January 8, 1877. His second award was for action at Bear Paw Mountain MT on September 30, 1877. He is buried in Custer County Cemetery, Miles City, MT in Section D, Block 18, Lot 3.

• Place and date: At Cedar Creek, etc., Mont., October 1876 to 8 January 1877
• Date of issue: 26 June 1894. Second award.
Citation: Gallantry in actions.
SECOND AWARD - Place and date: At Bear Paw Mountain, Mont., 30 September 1877. Citation: Carried Lt. Romeyn, who was severely wounded, off the field of battle under heavy fire.
