At this point Johann Stemmeler from Brühl was murdered on the 6th of February, 1758 by stabs. Presumably from the brothers Anton and Johann Georg Dominik who were never caught.
The winter of 1758 was long and cold. Thus it lasted till the middle of March, before the ice released the corpse of the victim in the Rhine. Johann Stemmeler, the son of the mayor of Brühl, was only 21 years old.
