"DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - It's one of the most eclectic museums you'll find in North Georgia, featuring collections of lunch boxes, Coca-Cola memorabilia, and early medical equipment. And it happens to be located in a striking building that played an important role in Douglas County's history for decades.
"The Douglas County Museum of History and Art is located in the Old Douglas County Courthouse, which was built in the mid-1950s and replaced by the county's new courthouse in 1998. Instead of selling off the old courthouse, the Douglas County Tourism and History Commission opted to save it and turn it into a community gathering place, filled with exhibits showcasing the area's history and the unique collections of its citizens.
"Today, the museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, and admission is free. Exhibits inside include tributes to veterans and African-American history. along with private collections of pop culture items like lunch boxes and children's phonographs. The museum also houses a Wall of Fame for Douglas Country residents who boast notable achievements.
"Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken spent the morning exploring the museum, learning more about the area's fascinating history."
