Memorial board to Hartmund Gründler, who burned himself in 1977 at this point in protest against the nuclear policy of the federal government.

Hartmut Gründler (born January 11, 1930 in Hümme, † November 21, 1977 in Hamburg) was a German, dedicated to environmental Tübingen teacher. On November 16, 1977, Gründler poured gasoline over himself in Hamburg, lit himself and died five days later in the hospital. His self-immolation took place during the SPD federal party convention. It was a protest against the alleged "false information" in the nuclear policy of the then federal government, especially on Asse II, and the refusal of Chancellor Helmut Schmidt to talk about it with him.
