The Apple Valley Recreational Loop Trail is 13 miles total. It goes around the Columbia River and over two bridges. It has a spur that extends up towards Rock Island. There are many entrances to the Loop trail, and most of them are a named park.
This is the Wenatchee Riverfront Park entrance.
Riverfront Park is the first park, I believe, long before there was a Loop Trail. You can see right away when you get in, that the maple trees are very mature. The specific park area around the skating rink was originally called "Sternwheeler Park", because it was a docking area for the boats that took people up and down and across the river before (and a while after) the first bridge across the Columbia River was built in 19??. The park was dedicated in 1974 (the year I was born!), but it had been in use since at least 1936. There used to be a city swimming pool here that would be converted into an ice skating rink in the winter.
I'm still a bit unclear as to where the exact borders are to the Wenatchee Riverfront Park. It goes to the Columbia River foot bridge towards the south, and to Linden Park towards the north.
Wenatchee Riverfront Park has a couple special amenities:
Riverfront Park Ice Arena.
Wenatchee Riverfront Railway (miniature train that has scheduled rides for donations, a small train museum, and a stationary engine and caboose that you can climb on).
Riverwalk Crossing Pedestrian Overpass (the bridge goes over the train tracks, into downtown Wenatchee)
Cooperative Extension Xeriscape Test Garden.
Special Events/:
Ridge to River Relay Race in April
Carnivals on special occasions.
Farmers Market in the summer on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays.
