Lost City is an unincorporated town about 3.5 miles north of Hulbert. The school is located on North Lost City Road, just north of the cemetery. Building additions have been added to the east, west and north of the school and only a small portion of it can be seen.
Legend says that the town got its name from a group of people who had a small settlement on the creek, and one day, they just disappeared, leaving everything behind. The area soon became known as the Lost City. The town has the distinction of being the location where a 22-lb. meteorite landed on January 3, 1970. Lost City School was operational as K-8 until 2008 when it was closed.
This is a one-story (65 x 25) school constructed of uncoursed ashlar stone with beaded masonry. The roof is cut-away gabled, with overhanging eaves. The entrance which cannot be seen in the photos has a single door, recessed within an arched opening. The window units have concrete sills.
