The Hartje Building is another downtown Pittsburgh success story. Originally a grand Renaissance-style office tower built in 1897, it's undergone several transformations. The building had fallen to Class B status until the dotcom boom, when it became the headquarters of "Computerm" (whoever they were/are) and then "Inrange Technologies" (ditto). Then it went vacant.
Along to the rescue came Point Park College. Long regarded as a downtown commuter college, Point Park is now a growing urban campus. They're swallowing up vacant office space and converting it to classrooms, common areas and residential dormitories. Just this year, the Hartje Building began life anew as a suite-style dormitory for upperclassmen.
