I used to spend two or three weeknights every week here. Yes, at one time, The Smithfield Cafe had karaoke on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Mondays were pretty dead, and the regulars would show up to try out new songs without making fools of ourselves in front of too many people apart from other regulars and passing drunks. Wednesdays were warm-up night, there was a crowd of hump day happy hour drinkers. Fridays were show time.
And then I discovered geocaching, and haven't been back there since. It appears that karaoke is now offered only on Fridays. Perhaps they missed me so much that the fad died down? Somehow, I don't think so. I am sure it is still a good party. Jimmy and his crew from Total Entertainment put on a good show, with more than 2,000 songs to choose from. The beer is cheap and plentiful. Good food, too.
Heck, shoot me an e-mail and you might even convince me to show up and belt out some of my old standbys.
The one overriding lesson I've learned from my years at the Smithfield Cafe: NEVER, ever, under any circumstances, date a girl named Tiffany.
