The Liberty Mall was originally called the Park Street Mall. It was constructed in 1826. It was renamed Liberty Mall in honor of the soldiers and sailors who fought in World War I on October 27, 1917.
This dedication to the Great War Soldiers & Sailors, is inscribed on the steps leading from Boston Common to Beacon Street across from the Massachusetts State House.
Surprisingly, in a city filled with War memorials & monuments, outdoor, World War 1 memorials in Boston are very scarce.
The Inscription reads:
"Liberty Mall, dedicated October.27.1917. To our Soldiers & Sailors in the Great War."
