"The Hôtel des Anciens Prêtres was built between 1755 and 1760 on the initiative of the Fondation des prêtres émérites, founded in the 13th century by Walter de Marvis, based on the plans of Playez and Van Dael.
The limestone edifice of Tournai and bricks develops according to a U-shaped plan and has a facade composed of eleven bays where stands out a stone frontispiece of three bays. The latter is surmounted by a pediment whose tympanum, representing the allegory of Sciences and Letters, was carved by Jerome Denau.
Its ground floor is marked by molded arcades and a sloping boss that continues on the rest of this first level. Separated from the ground floor by a drip cord, the floor is pierced by bays punctuated by ionic pilasters at the frontispiece and brick piers elsewhere.
Side windows with crossettes are adorned with a little protruding key. The gate that adorns this facade provides access to a garden lined with three wings.
The building housed a chapter library that burned largely during the bombings of 1940. Since 2008, the Hôtel des Anciens Prêtres has been at the heart of a vast project of restoration and reallocation. "
