"As of 2023, the fourth most translated book in the world is Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Since its Italian publication in 1883, readers have enjoyed the beloved children's tale of the little wooden boy in more than 260 languages. Its adaptation into an animated Disney film in 1940 only increased the story's popularity. The series garnered immense popularity, leading Collodi to compile the stories into a book in 1883, published under the name "Le avventure di Pinocchio."

"Asteroid 12927 Pinocchio was discovered on September 30, 1999, by Maura Tombelli and Luciano Tesi, at the San Marcello Pistoiese Observatory in San Marcello Pistoiese, Tuscany, Italy. It has a period of 3 years, 181 days. It was named after the title character of the children's book The Adventures Of Pinocchio(1883), by Italian author Carlo Lorenzini(1826-1890), who wrote under the pen name Carlo Collodi. Pinocchio(whose name means "Pine Head" in Italian) was a wooden marionette carved by an old man named Geppetto who longed to become a real, flesh-and-blood boy, and got his wish, but first had to learn bravery, truth, unselfishness and generosity. Philosopher Benedetto Croce commented that "the wood of which Pinocchio is carved is humanity itself." The book was made into a classic movie by The Walt Disney Company in 1940. The character Pinocchio is probably best known for the fact that his nose grew in length whenever he told lies and returned to normal size whenever he told the truth."
