Buoy Boat 115 was built about 1929. BB 115 is now on display at the Mohawk Valley Welcome Center along westbound I-90 between interchanges 28 and 29. As recently as the 1990s, BB 115 was still working the Erie Canal in the Fonda area.
Back in the 1930s, the buoy boat's function was maintenance of the kerosene lanterns that marked the channel of the Erie Barge Canal. BB 115 is 29 feet long. Its beam is 7 feet. It operated with a 55 horsepower Yanmar diesel engine.
