A group of citizens had blueprints drawn for a 2-story public library. These were sent to Andrew Carnegie in 1907. He replied that a 2-story library could not be built for $10,000 but approved the plans. A 2-story brick building was completed in May, 1908. Mr. Carnegie was so pleased that the structure was completed in the $10,000 range, that he donated another $1,000 to defray the cost for tables, desks, and chairs. 1250 books were catalogued and classified, and the Mount Carroll Township Public Library opened its doors in August, 1908 and is still in use today.
