Die historische Ursprungsstätte der Stadt Schöneck ist der „Alte Söll“, welcher heute als gern besuchter Aussichtsfelsen dient. Von früher Historie zeugen freigelegte Teile eines Torbogens, und am Fuße des früheren Berggutes zwei Bierkeller aus dem 14. Jh. Der Fels war Standort der Burg Schöneck und besteht aus Grauwackenquarzit. 1580 wurden Teile der Burg wegen Baufälligkeit abgetragen und ein Jagdschloss errichtet. Nach dem Brand von 1761 wurden die Reste des Schlosses abgetragen und zum Wiederaufbau der Stadt verwendet. Im Jahr 2012 wurden umfangreiche Sanierungsarbeiten abgeschlossen. Der Felsen wurde von Bäumen und Sträuchern befreit und Mauerreste freigelegt. Außerdem wurde die Aussichtsplattform erneuert und Informationstafeln aufgestellt. Vom Felsen aus erhält man, in 734m über dem Meeresspiegel, einen wunderbaren Rundblick zum Elstergebirge im Süden, Fichtelgebirge im Westen und den Thüringer Wald im Nordwesten. Bei klarer Sicht und gutem Auge soll man schon einmal das Völkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig gesehen haben.
Im Winter ist der "Alte Söll" nicht begehbar. Für unsere kleinen Besucher befindet sich am Fuße des "Alten Söll" der Abenteuerspielplatz "Burg Schöneck"

The historical place of origin of the city of Schöneck is the "Alte Söll", which today serves as a popular viewing rock. Parts of an archway are evidence of early history, and two 14th-century beer cellars at the foot of the former mountain estate. The rock was the site of Schöneck Castle and consists of greywacke quartzite. In 1580 parts of the castle were demolished due to dilapidation and a hunting lodge was built. After the fire of 1761, the remains of the castle were removed and used to rebuild the city. In 2012, extensive renovation work was completed. The rock was cleared of trees and shrubs and exposed wall remains. In addition, the observation deck was renovated and information panels set up. From the cliff you get, at 734m above sea level, a wonderful panoramic view of the Elstergebirge in the south, Fichtelgebirge in the west and the Thuringian Forest in the northwest. With a clear view and good eye you should have seen the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig.
In winter, the "Old Söll" is not accessible. For our little visitors is located at the foot of the "Old Söll" the adventure playground "Burg Schöneck"
