[EN] Monument to the dead dedicated to the Marcéens who died during the First World War (1914-1918).
It is located at the corner of the Rue du 11 Novembre and Place Jeanne d'Arc.
Originally built after the First World War, a plaque was added later to include the names of the soldiers who died during the Second World War (1939-1945).
In 2017, the ceremony of November 11 in Marçay was coupled with a special tribute to a hairy forgotten. Indeed, the members of HPMM (History Heritage and Memories of Marçay) had recently found a plate, full of dust, in an attic of the town hall of Marçay. On this plate then cleaned, some words appeared: "Edouard Aucher, died for France".
After a lot of research, meetings helped to reconstitute his life. He was born on September 26, 1893, near Loudun. From the age of 17, he lived at the Roberderie, in Marçay. Then he went to war, like many men. During the battle at Morhange on August 20, 1914, Edouard Aucher was seriously injured. He died on September 1, 1914, and was buried in Germany in a prison camp. In 1926 he was finally buried at the necropolis of Sarrebourg. The plaque had been made by his mother, certainly to put it on his grave. It is now affixed to the war memorial Marçay.
