[DE] "Das Johannes-Müller-Denkmal in Koblenz ist ein Denkmal zu Ehren des in der Stadt geborenen Mediziners Johannes Müller. Es befindet sich in der Altstadt im Zentrum des Jesuitenplatzes vor dem Rathaus der Stadt Koblenz.
Die Einweihung des privat finanzierten Denkmals fand am 7. Oktober 1899 auf dem Jesuitenplatz in Koblenz statt. Die Festrede hielt Müllers früherer Schüler Rudolf Virchow. Das Standbild ist ein Werk des Berliner Bildhauers Joseph Uphues.
Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde das Denkmal 1951 aus verkehrstechnischen Gründen in die Südallee versetzt. Nachdem man den Jesuitenplatz autofrei umgestaltet hatte, kehrte es 1986 an seinen alten Platz zurück.
Das Johannes-Müller-Denkmal, das sich durch flache Stufen leicht erhöht in der Mitte des Jesuitenplatzes befindet, steht auf einem hohen Granitsockel und ist somit platzbildprägend. Darüber erhebt sich eine überlebensgroße Bronzefigur von Johannes Peter Müller. Auf der Vorderseite des Sockels sind der Name Johannes Müller und seine Lebensdaten 1801–1858 eingemeißelt, auf der Rückseite steht zu lesen: “Dem grossen Anatomen u. Physiologen errichtet in seiner Vaterstadt 1899”.
Das Johannes-Müller-Denkmal ist ein geschütztes Kulturdenkmal nach dem Denkmalschutzgesetz (DSchG) und in der Denkmalliste des Landes Rheinland-Pfalz eingetragen. Es liegt am Jesuitenplatz.
Seit 2002 ist das Johannes-Müller-Denkmal Teil des UNESCO-Welterbes Oberes Mittelrheintal."
[EN] "The Johannes Müller Monument in Koblenz is a monument in honour of Johannes Müller, a doctor born in the city. It is located in the old town in the centre of Jesuitenplatz in front of the town hall of Koblenz.
The inauguration of the privately financed monument took place on 7 October 1899 on Jesuitenplatz in Koblenz. Müller's former pupil Rudolf Virchow gave the speech. The statue is the work of the Berlin sculptor Joseph Uphues.
After the Second World War, the monument was moved to Südallee in 1951 for traffic reasons. After the car-free redesign of Jesuitenplatz, it returned to its old location in 1986.
The Johannes Müller Monument, which is slightly elevated by flat steps in the middle of Jesuit Square, stands on a high granite pedestal and is thus characteristic of the square. Above it rises a larger-than-life bronze figure by Johannes Peter Müller. On the front of the pedestal the name Johannes Müller and his life data 1801-1858 are engraved, on the back is written: "The great anatomist and physiologist built in his hometown 1899".
The Johannes Müller Monument is a protected cultural monument according to the Monument Protection Act (DSchG) and registered in the monument list of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It's on Jesuit Square.
Since 2002 the Johannes Müller Monument has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley."
