Automobile travelers driving the Lincoln Highway would have found Holliday Park a wonderful place to stop, stretch their legs, and maybe even break out a picnic lunch.
The WPA writers also mentioned Holliday park in their WPA Guide to Wyoming as follows:
"[page 193] 21. HOLLIDAY PARK, bordering Lake Minnehaha at the of E. 18th Street, affords a pleasant lake-shore Drive. In the northeast corner is a picnic ground with roughhewn log tables and benches."
After the Union Pacific retired its steam fleet in the 1960s, the UP donated one of their Big Boy Locomotives to Holliday Park, where it stands today.
