The former palace of the prince-bishops of Liège occupied since the twelfth centuries at the same location, was rebuilt in the sixteenth century probably inspired by plans designed by Leonardo da Vinci; it is the colonnade of the first court that makes it an important monument of the Renaissance.
Partly destroyed in 1734, the main facade has been rebuilt in classical style and a large part of the prince's apartments are, at the same time, decorated in rococo style.
Seat of many jurisdictions, the palace also houses, in its western wing rebuilt in the nineteenth-century neo-Gothic style, the institutions of the province of Liège.
