The airport and an associated aviation and business park was built by the Wagner family, a local prominent business family in the Toowoomba region. The runway is 2870 m long by 45 m wide and capable of handling aircraft to Boeing 747 size. The airport is estimated to have a catchment area of 344,000 people. From YE 2017 the airport handled 157,000 passengers (a 25.9% growth from the previous year), making it the 33rd busiest regional airport in Australia annually.
All the signs I saw still referred to the airport as Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport however the decision to change the name was only taken in November last year.
We were allowed to look around the terminal including the departure lounge. It was very quiet as no planes were due. Security was strict so we were checked before heading into the departure lounge.
