On the base of the front (northern) side of the sandstone base of the bust of Gregory Blaxland is a bronze plaque, with the following inscription:

	 Blue Mountains
   BLUE  WAVE
 Celebration of Mountains Life
   2013 Bicentenary of Re-enactment of the
       Crossing of the Blue Mountains
A commemorative Event of National Significance

The 'crossing of the Blue Mountains' has been considered the major point for the opening up of the inland of New South Wales and Australia. The reality is a little different.
