The old church turned out to be too small at the end of the century and it will be abandoned in favor of a new construction.
The work of the new neo-Gothic church began on May 18, 1880, the day of the death of Cardinal Pie, Bishop of Poitiers. The first stone was blessed on the following 25th of July. The church was consecrated on May 1, 1886 by Bishop Bellot des Minières.
The architect of this site was Father Joseph Guyot, parish priest of Saint-Gaudent from 1874 to 1891. The construction is due essentially to the generosity of the faithful, especially to that of Mrs. Elisa Laubier de Grandfief, born Corderoy du Tiers.
The plan is quite classic: bell-tower to the west, with the only stone spire in the sector, single nave of three bays, transept, choir with right bedside. The columns and their capitals that support the fallout of the vaults are detached from the side walls. The arms of the transept have no absidioles but niches which, in the east wall, house statues of Our Lady of Lourdes on the left, Joseph with the Child on the right.

L'ancienne église s'avéra trop petite à la fin du siècle et elle sera alors abandonnée au profit d'une nouvelle construction.
Les travaux de la nouvelle église néo-gothique ont commencé le 18 mai 1880, jour de la mort du cardinal Pie, évêque de Poitiers. La première pierre fut bénite le 25 juillet suivant. L'église a été consacrée le 1er mai 1886 par Mgr Bellot des Minières.
L'artisan de ce chantier a été l'abbé Joseph Guyot, curé de Saint-Gaudent de 1874 à 1891. La construction est due pour l'essentiel à la générosité des fidèles, et surtout à celle de madame Elisa Laubier de Grandfief, née Corderoy du Tiers.
Le plan est tout à fait classique: clocher-porche à l'ouest, avec la seule flèche en pierre du secteur, nef unique de trois travées, transept, chœur à chevet droit. Les colonnes et leurs chapiteaux qui supportent les retombées des voûtes sont détachées des murs latéraux. Les bras du transept n'ont pas d'absidioles mais des niches qui, dans le mur est, abritent des statues de Notre-Dame de Lourdes à gauche, de Joseph avec l'Enfant à droite.
