The plaque says, "While the romance of gold earned more notoriety for desert miners, cattlemen left their enduring mark on the land though the construction of numerously dams and stock tanks. Today these water improvements are valuable assets to the wildlife of Joshua Tree National Park. Records of the cattle era are scarce. Information for these brands came from a variety of sources: interviews, published biographical and historical studies, correspondence, and great registers from two counties.
As a part of the 1963 commemoration honoring Morongo Valley Pioneers, Mr. Cyril (Mary) Millington cast a set of concrete tiles showing cattle brands of the area. The sides were eventually donated to Joshua Tree National Park"
