Cette fontaine, classée Monument historique en 1949, est intégrée dans un angle, à l’intersection des rues de la Mule Noire et de la Fontaine d’Argent. Elle a été construite en 1758 selon les plans, influencés par le courant baroque, de Georges Vallon, avec la participation de Jean Chastel pour les sculptures. Deux hommes joufflus, coiffés de turbans à l’ottomane, projettent de leur bouche l’eau qui provient du Verdon.

La partie supérieure de la fontaine contient une plaque vide. Anciennement, les armes de la Ville y étaient placées, mais elles ont disparu. Aucun écrit ne relate l’évolution officielle du nom de la fontaine. Initialement fontaine de la Mule Noire, elle reçut également le nom de fontaine de la Comédie pour sa proximité avec le théâtre du Jeu de Paume et la rue de l’Opéra mais c’est le nom de fontaine d’Argent qui resta le plus gravé dans les mémoires.

This fountain, listed as a historic monument in 1949, is integrated into an angle, at the intersection of the streets of the Black Mule and the Silver Fountain. It was built in 1758 according to the plans, influenced by the baroque current, of Georges Vallon, with the participation of Jean Chastel for the sculptures. Two chubby men, wearing turbans at the Ottoman, project from their mouth the water that comes from the Verdon.

The upper part of the fountain contains an empty plate. Formerly, the City's weapons were placed there, but they disappeared. No writing relates the official evolution of the name of the fountain. Originally a fountain of the Black Mule, it was also called the fountain of the Comedie for its proximity to the Jeu de Paume theater and the rue de l'Opéra, but it is the name of the fountain of Silver which remained the most engraved in the memories.
