The Brigham Young monument was placed in the middle of the intersection of Main Street and South Temple Street in Salt Lake City. Long one of the busiest intersections in the city, there have been efforts, since its placement in 1897, to move it out of the intersection. It was finally relocated in 1999 but it long outlasted the horses, horseless carriages and trolleys but not the car. The monument is now 88 feet to the northeast and the street behind it has been closed as is now private property.
