August 15, 1864 the city center of Limoges is devastated by a great fire. During the redevelopment of the city, the architects Pesce and Lévesque, colleague of Gustave Eiffel, build the central covered marketplace in the spirit of the Paris World Fair of 1889, date of the inauguration of the marketplace.
Set on a waist stones base outlined with a semicircular cord, pink brick walls with dark green brick design support semicircular canopies iron frames surmounted by iron arches pierced with floral patterns and scrolls. The frieze of 328 porcelain tiles "big fire" illustrates the proposed foods: game, vegetables, fruits ... From inside we can admire the beautiful metal frame.
All Limousin flavors (and well beyond) meet on the 2000 m2 of central covered marketplace over the stalls of 54 merchants and on the tables of its two restaurants.
