CP 3100 - Ottawa, Ontario - Locomotives on Waymarking.com

CP 3100 is one of only two K-1 class 4-8-4 locomotives built for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Engines 3100 and 3101 left the Angus Shops in Montreal in 1928. They were specifically designed for the heavy loads, pulling passenger trains between Montreal and Toronto. When diesels took over service on the Montreal-Toronto trains, CP 3100 ran passenger service between Montreal and Saint John, New Brunswick. Eventually, diesels also took over this run. CP 3100 ended its career moving freight out of Winnipeg.

CP 3100 joined the Canada Science and Technology Museum in 1967. According to the museum's technical sheet, this was the first engine in Canada to use one piece cast steel frame and cylinder valve; nickel steel in boiler; one piece tender frame. Highest boiler pressure of any Canadian engine at the time. Although long lived these locomotives were not considered a success due to their tempermental nature.
