Just into Cape Coral across the Midpoint Bridge from Fort Myers, on the north side of Veterans Parkway at 4 Mile Ecological Park is the Cape Coral Veterans Memorial Park. It has a number of memorials to veterans of different conflicts: Iraqi War, Vietnam War, World War II, and this one for the Gulf War.
Text of Plaque:
The Tribute to a Soldier monument depicts one of our Gulf War soldiers saluting his flag, paying tribute to our country, friends, and fellow protectors of our freedom. The Iraqi child standing next to him is saluting the same flag, emulating his new soldier hero while expressing appreciation for his new freedom. The soccer ball and uniform represent this freedom and his much more promising future. This statue will stand forever, so will the American soldier stand to preserve our freedom forever. The artists express their thanks to all who made this monument a reality and a thanks to all the past, present and future service men and women of this great country who inspired us to do this project. We salute you all!
