St. Joseph Medical Center was dedicated on November 1, 2000. This new hospital has a modern emergency room, laboratory, pharmacy, visitors waiting areas and chapel.

It wasn't that long after the hospital opened that it became a bookcrossing zone, with Liberty Falling, an Anna Pigeon Mysteries Paperback, being released in the waiting room on May 23, 2005. To the best of anyone's knowledge, the book remains in the wild.
