Since 1789, the state prohibits intramural cemeteries and retrocedates their management to the municipalities, that's why we find many cemeteries like this one outside the city.
The area of the cemetery is 13 000 square meters, with a part "Garden of Remembrance" for the funerary ashes.
It is very rare to find a chapel in a French cemetery of this size. This chapel is rectangular in shape made with materials from the region, such as the tufa stone.

"In the cemetery of Villedieu-sur-Indre, near the only chapel, is the beautiful tomb of the painter Denis BERGERET (1844-1910).
A former student of Isabey, he was an author of still lifes - mainly crustaceans - and cooking scenes; exhibiting in Paris in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. He rests in the cemetery of Villedieu-sur-Indre, where his wife was from. "
