The County of Werdenfels, in the present-day Werdenfelser Land in South Germany, was a county that enjoyed the imperial immediacy that belonged to the Bishopric of Freising from the late 13th century until the secularization of the Bishopric in 1803.
In 1895 the Werdenfels Museum in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was created from a private collection.
The museum has been housed since 1973 in a former merchant's house from the 17th century. The Werdenfels Museum presents the history and culture of the Werdenfelser Land. You can see prehistoric finds as well as religious objects, peasant folk art, bourgeois and peasant home decor. Also worth seeing is the carnival room with masks of various kinds that give an overview of the carnival tradition in the region.
The Werdenfels Museum is one of the most important museum in Bavaria.
