Implantée sur ordonnance royale le 14 juillet 1819, véritable poumon industriel de Châtellerault aux XIXe et XXe siècles, la Manufacture d'armes a, pendant 150 ans, marqué la ville et sa population.
De 34 ouvriers en 1819, elle en compte près de 8 000 un siècle plus tard, surnommés les « Manuchards » durant la Première Guerre mondiale.
Il en reste quelques cheminées dont ces deux datées de 1886 et 1887.
Implanted by royal decree on July 14, 1819, the industrial lung of Châtellerault in the 19th and 20th centuries, the Manufacture d'armes has, for 150 years, marked the city and its population.
From 34 workers in 1819, it nearly 8,000 years later, nicknamed "Manuchards" during the First World War.
There are still some chimneys including these two dated 1886 and 1887.
