A reception will be held at 10 a.m. at the Palace Theater, followed by the unveiling at 11 a.m.

Acree family members and former players will share their memories of Acree, who died in 1995, at the reception. The statue will be at the intersection of Sixth Ave. and Beaton Street, and the reception will continue after the statue is unveiled.

Acree, who played college football at Oklahoma for Bud Wilkinson, led Corsicana to a 14-0 finish in 1963 and was named Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association. Corsicana won the title game 7-0 over Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on a day in which the temperature was near freezing.

The Dallas Morning News account of the game included this:

"Once again, as he had in all previous 13 games this fall, Acree wore his battered old blue shirt with short sleeves."

Not for a moment, the story said, did Acree wear a jacket during the game.
