This area is within the Pea Ridge National Military Park, but it is not accessed from the main loop road at the larger portion of the battlefield to the east. In fact, this is on a public back road and is reachable without having to pay the usual park fee.
Union General Samuel Curtis had his troops entrench on the beatiful bluffs at this area above Little Sugar Creek, thinking that this is where the battle would take place. But these entrenchments were never used, since the battle ended up east and north of here.
