Centennial Mural - Ringling, OK - Murals on Waymarking.com

This mural is painted on the west wall of a one-story brick building on the northeast corner of 5th and Main Street. It shows two scenes of downtown Ringling, with several 1920's vintage vehicles. On the south end of the mural the building across the street (likely an early bank) is shown. That building remains today, but it has been heavily remodeled.

At the center of the mural are the words: "Ringling, Oklahoma / 1914 - 2014". Ringling was named by John Ringling, owner of the famous Ringling Brother Circus. He and his partner, Jake Hamon built a railroad west from Ardmore. When construction reached the area of Ringling, the tracks were diverted to Healdton, ten miles north, because oil had just been discovered there in 1913. The town of Ringling was established in 1913, incorporated in 1914, and celebrated its centennial in 2014.

This mural is one of hundreds across Oklahoma and in other states, created by Bob Palmer and his mural students. The signature in the south corner reads www.muralsbypalmer.com and shows the names of the artists who created it: Chris Presley, S. Cox, Shikoh, and Julia Roper.
