FR Il faut savoir où chercher pour trouver cette chapelle dont la forme est atypique. La façade est droite mais au-delà, le reste est rond.

Elle fut construite par Roger Petit, professeur d'anglais et amateur d'art moderne, qui s'était promis durant la guerre d'Algérie de construire une chapelle s'il revenait vivant.

La chapelle de la Santonne présente une forme particulière qui fait penser à un ovni quand on arrive par le chemin de la Santonne et qu'on la découvre par en haut.

Partiellement encastrée dans le flanc de la colline, elle est faite de pierres assemblées et couverte de plaques métalliques. Son toit est arrondi et le clocher est pointu.

Sur tout l'avant est dessiné un poisson volant géant dont les nageoires, des vitraux, permettent à la lumière d'éclairer l'intérieur.

La porte est de forme trapèze et décentrée

A l'intérieur, un olivier taillé en forme de Christ aux bras levés occupe le centre de la pièce. Au-dessus de sa tête, un vitrail de poisson fait fonction de clef de voûte et forme un puits de lumière

Derrière lui, le mur est occupé par une mosaïque qui représente un cœur (l'organe pas le symbole) d'où partent plusieurs rayons (les artères).
EN You have to know where to look to find this chapel whose form is atypical. The facade is right but beyond, the rest is round.

It was built by Roger Petit, English teacher and modern art lover, who had promised during the Algerian war to build a chapel if he came back alive.

The Chapel of the Santonne has a particular shape that makes one think of an UFO when one arrives by the way of the Santonne and that one discovers it by above.

Partially recessed in the side of the hill, it is made of stones assembled and covered with metal plates. Its roof is rounded and the steeple is pointed.

On the front is designed a giant flying fish whose fins, stained glass, allow the light to illuminate the interior.

The door is trapezoidal and off center

Inside, an olive tree carved in the shape of Christ with arms raised occupies the center of the room. Above his head, a stained glass fish serves as a keystone and forms a skylight

Behind him, the wall is occupied by a mosaic representing a heart (the organ not the symbol) from which several rays (the arteries) leave.
