A plaque on the side of the bandstand in Dovecote Lane Recreation Park for the circle of 12 trees planted surrounding it.
Planted in 1993, the trees represent the then 12 EC member countries.
The plaque reads:
TREE CIRCLES FOR
EUROPE
The trees (Acer plantanoides) forming
this circle, representing each of the
twelve EC member countries, were
planted in January 1993 by members of
Broxtowe Borough Council'd Technical
and Leisure Services Committee.

Of course, now in 2018 there are 28 member states - probably soon to become 27. The trees represent the member states at the time; (1957) Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, (1973) Denmark, Ireland, United Kingdom, (1981) Greece, (1986) Spain and Portugal.
What happens to the UK tree in 2019 is unknown. Cut it down, or adopt it to another member?
