Large mosaic depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary with Child, located over the entrance to the Monastery of Paleokastritsa on Corfu's southeast coast.
The inscription reads Blessed Virgin of Paleokastritsa.
The artist's name is also entered at the lower right base of the mosaic.
The monastery was established in 1228 and has been in continuous use since. There is no admission charged to enter the grounds.
Specific visit requirements:
The Monastery, church and museum are open daily. Visitors are expected to be dressed appropriately (no bikinis or Brazilian thongs).
