"The title suggests that exploration is an element of education, and that education prepares us to explore throughout our careers and our lives. The sculpture attempts to distill and synthesize visually some of the tools of the explorer, both natural (the stars) and manmade (the sextant, the ship, the airplane). These elements are placed above a stepped, angled, triangular column, which places the dynamic elements of the sculpture so they can be seen from the road, above the parked cars, against the trees and the sky."
