A collection of spectacular natural hot springs in the Jemez Springs area, with several large pools of warm water perfect for bathing. A fabulous collection of hot springs, McCauley is well worth the 2-mile hike to reach it. The source bubbles out of the ground on a relatively steep hillside and flows into a large pond with crystal-clear water. From here the water flows downhill into many other pools, each slightly cooler than the previous one. Small dams have been constructed to capture this water in pools. The scenery is fantastic. Despite the sometimes difficult hike along the Jemez River, do not expect to have McCauley to yourself. It is a well-known and well-publicized collection of springs. Both bathing suits and nudity are common at the springs. Primitive. The only alteration has been the construction of several rock dams, which created pools for bathing.
