The Virginian Hotel is located on the Lincoln Highway in Medicine Bow, Wyoming. Built in 1911, the Virginian Hotel was named after Owen Wister’s book by the same name. The establishment was the first in town to offer electricity and indoor plumbing.
Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the hotel was restored to its original Victorian décor and re-opened in 1984. Sixteen antique single rooms and four vintage suites offer canopied beds, vintage quilts, and some have fireplaces. A candlelight dinner can be ordered in the Owen Wister dining room where an elegant meal is enhanced by the surrounding flocked floral wallpaper. The Shilo Saloon offers a western flair with a log bar and taxidermy on the wall. Guests can also enjoy a game of pool or music on the player piano. Prices are very reasonable to stay at this unique hotel.
