FR La fontaine des Bagniers - aussi appelée fontaine des Chapeliers - se trouve en pleine ville, adossée rue des chapeliers, face à la rue des Bagniers dont elle porte le nom. C’est l’une des plus anciennes : elle a été construite en 1687, mais déplacée de quelques mètres en 1758. Elle était à l’origine, alimentée en eau chaude, mais celle-ci fut remplacée par l’eau de la ville au moment de ce déplacement. Pourquoi ? Parce que l’eau thermale qui venait de la rue des Chaudronniers se perdait en grande partie dans les caves voisines. On rassembla donc les eaux chaudes par des canaux et des aqueducs souterrains et on les dirigea sur le cours vers la fontaine " moussue ". Quant à la fontaine des Bagniers, elle fut, comme on l’a dit, alimentée en eau froide. Mais l’eau chaude y a coulé pendant soixante-douze ans.

Rongée par le temps, il ne reste du XVIIème siècle que le bassin en forme d’auge. La tête et le massif sont du XXème, d’après les modèles originaux. Elle a également été redécorée d’un médaillon en bronze de Cézanne d’après à Renoir. L’ensemble est de l’architecte Georges Vallon. Il a été inscrit aux Monuments historiques en 1949.
EN The Bagniers fountain - also called the fountain of the Hatters - is in the city, backed street hatters, facing the street of Bagniers whose name it bears. This is one of the oldest: it was built in 1687, but moved a few meters in 1758. It was originally supplied with hot water, but it was replaced by water from the city at the moment of this displacement. Why ? Because the thermal water that came from the Rue des Chaudronniers was largely lost in the neighboring cellars. The hot waters were collected by underground canals and aqueducts and directed to the course towards the "mossy" fountain. As for the Bagniers fountain, it was, as we said, supplied with cold water. But hot water flowed there for seventy-two years.
