During the War of 1812, at the Battle of Havre de Grace, the British burned the town to the ground. Every structure and building (except for one) was built after May 3, 1813.

Here on the morning of May 3, 1813, British Forces under Admiral Cockburn landed, sacked, and burned the town. The principal defense were two small batteries on Concord point. The "Potato Battery" on high ground, was manned to the last by John O'Neill.
