Devil's Puchbowl Waterfall is one of the most visited and photographed among the 100+ waterfalls within the City of Hamilton. There is however a smaller waterfall just downstream of the main attraction at this conservation area. Less visible from the high viewing platform, the Lower Punchbowl Falls are best viewed when accessed from below the Niagara escarpment.

The frozen lower falls, with the Devil's Punchbowl viewing platform visible high above

Visitors can park on nearby residential streets (watching for parking restrictions) and walk to the base of the lower falls. From the intersection of Upper Lake Avenue and Trevor Avenue it is a walking distance of 300m. A pedestrian crossing over the railways tracks is located at the end of Mountain Ave S. The short trail leading to the base of the lower falls is not marked but it is well worn. This is a short but rugged section of trail, with some steep drop offs - be very careful.

Frozen Falls - not to be confused with Frostbite Falls

Visitors might also consider parking at the Devil's Punchbowl Conservation Area (paid parking) and after taking in the scenes from above, make your way down to the lower falls by following the Devil's Punchbowl Side Trail (part of the Bruce Trail). The side trail was re-routed in 2017 and follows the former Ridge Road side trail. the new side trail has a length of 1.2 kms.

Lower Punchbowl Falls is located on Stoney Creek about 100 metres downstream of the Devil’s Punch Bowl. It is considered an Overhang Classical Falls as you can actually walk under the overhang behind the waterfall. Its width and height are both 6 metres (20 feet).
To reach it from the QEW, take Centennial Parkway, turn left onto King St. E, then turn right onto Mountain Ave. S. Follow it to the end. The Bruce Trail begins at the very end of this road. Follow the Bruce Trail to Lower Punchbowl Falls.
