EN: The town church is the Evangelical-Reformed parish church of Burgdorf. It is located on the hill north of the old town. The pillar basilica has a 72 meter high bell tower on the west side. Inside, there is a late Gothic rood screen by Heinrich Kummer from 1512, considered to be the most precious one in Switzerland.
At this location, there was an older church from the late 12th century before, that became a parish church in 1401. The present church was built after 1471 by Niklaus Birenvogt. The outer walls were built around the old church so that this one could still be used until shortly before the end of construction. The chancel vault was finally completed in 1490. In 1528 the church became reformed.
DE: Die Stadtkirche ist die evangelisch-reformierte Pfarrkirche von Burgdorf. Sie befindet sich auf dem Hügel nördlich der Altstadt. Die Pfeilerbasilika hat einen 72 Meter hohen Turm an der Westseite. In Innern befindet sich ein spätgotischer Lettner von Heinrich Kummer aus dem Jahr 1512, der als der kostbarste der Schweiz gilt.
An dieser Stelle stand zuvor eine ältere Kirche aus dem späten 12. Jahrhundert, die 1401 zur Pfarrkirche wurde. Die heutige Kirche wurde ab 1471 von Niklaus Birenvogt erbaut. Die Fassade wurde um die alte Kirche herum gebaut, so dass diese bis kurz vor dem Ende der Bauarbeiten weiter benutzt werden konnte. Das Chorgewölbe wurde 1490 vollendet. 1528 wurde die Kirche reformiert.
