Elmwood Cemetery is located on Downs Avenue (County Road 410 East), southwest of town. This is a large cemetery with 10,693 burials at this date. The area is well maintained, and the unique thing is its three foot high granite rock wall that runs along the north side facing Downs Avenue, and along its east side, separating it from a housing addition. This rock wall was constructed by the WPA in the 1930s and is hundreds of feet long.
The wall curves on either side of the main entrance, with six foot high pillars, then runs the width of the cemetery along the road at a height of about three feet. Approximately every 30 feet, there is a slightly higher pillar. The stones are laid randomly and allowed to form a jagged top.
