EN: The Bunge Fountain stands in a corner of the park opposite the children's hospital. It has a large rectangular fountain column with a bronze sculpture in a niche. Above the faucet there is a dedication: "Gustav v. Bunge the researcher and man from his disciples and friends"
Gustav von Bunge (1844-1920) was a physician and professor of physiological medicine at the University of Basel. He is considered one of the pioneers of vitamin research and was a strong proponent and supporter of the abstinence movement. His miscalculation of a ten times too high iron content in spinach from 1890 is still known today, but does not detract from his other achievements.
DE: Der Bunge-Brunnen steht in einer Ecke des Parks gegenüber dem Kinderspital. Er hat eine grosse quaderförmige Brunnensäule mit einer Bronzeplastik in einer Nische. Über der Wasserröhre steht eine Widmung: "Gustav v. Bunge dem Forscher und Mensch seine Schüler und Freunde"
Gustav von Bunge (1844 - 1920) war ein Arzt und Professor der physiologischen Medizin an der Universität Basel. Er gilt als einer der Wegbereiter der Vitaminforschung und war ein starker Befürworter und Förderer der Abstinenzbewegung. Seine Fehlberechnung eines zehn Mal zu hohen Eisengehalts in Spinat von 1890 ist heute noch bekannt, tut allerdings seinen anderen Errungenschaften keinen Abbruch.
