The Orientation Table at Braye Park Lookout gives a partial explanation of the reason for the naming of the Bray Park Lookout - after Ross Braye, KIA in Libya, 1941.

In the centre of the Orientation Plate is the following inscription:

"To Perpetuate
The Memory of
Ross Braye
R.A.A.F.
Killed in Action - Libya
December 1941"

The circular Orientation Table is centred on the top, of eight square sandstone blocks, that have a 'hour-glass' shape, on the northern end of the Lookout area.

Further information has been found, in the following:
"LAC Braye was killed by an enemy bomb in Libya on 26 December 1941, and is buried in the Knightsbridge War Cemetery at Acroma, Libya." [Australian War Memorial Collection] (visit link)

* For a, "A general view over the burial service of R. Bray (probably 6137 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Robert Allan Ross Braye of No. 3 Squadron RAAF. LAC Braye was killed by an enemy bomb in Libya on 26 December 1941, and is buried in the Knightsbridge War Cemetery at Acroma, Libya." go to the above website site for a specific photo (That while "Out of Copyright" has been denied here!)

From the 3rd Squadron RAAF website:

"Leading Aircraftman Robert Allan Ross BRAYE, service number 6137, is buried at Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Acroma, Libya. Plot 15, row B, grave 17. Age 24.

"Son of Thomas Alfred Inglis Braye and Sarah Brewer Braye. Husband of Gladys Olive Braye, of Kurri Kurri, New South Wales, Australia.

"On 26/12/41, while collecting a new coil for his truck which had broken down, Leading Aircraftman Braye was killed instantly when a single enemy aircraft bombed No.121 Maintenance Unit. Corporal A. Campbell, No.8788, was seriously injured and admitted to 62nd General Hospital at Tobruk. Leading Aircraftman Braye was buried the next day by the 118 kilo post on the Tobruk to Derna road near Gazala No.2 airstrip." (visit link)

[So, it seems that the Braye Park reserve, and Lookout have been named after this particular casualty 'of war' - Ross Braye.]
