The Walkley Arena was opened in 1963. In the 1980s, the centre was doubled in size and now hosts two indoor skating arenas. The Peplinski Arena has room for 2000 spectators. The Walkley Arena has room for 200 spectators. In 1991, the arenas became known as the Jim Durrell Recreation Centre. The recreation centre offers many things including skate services, a canteen and meeting rooms.
There are many hours of public skating available here every week: public skating, adult skating, pick-up hockey for adults and shinny for youth of different ages. Check the specific schedules on the web site.
The Jim Peplinski Arena is home to the Ottawa Jr Senators hockey team of the Central Canada Hockey League.
