EN: The Sauerländer-Haus is a Neo-classical villa in the Lauerzenvorstadt in Aarau. The house was built from 1831 to 1834 for the publisher Heinrich Remigius Sauerländer. The architect of the house is unknown; a guess is cantonal master builder Franz Heinrich Hemmann. The three-storey building with hipped roof stylistically adapts close to the immediate environment, although this is several decades older.
The house served as the head office of the Sauerländer publishing company, which was in family possession until 2001 today and belongs to the Cornelsen publishing group. In 2004, the publisher left the building, which is now used by various small businesses.
DE: Das Sauerländer-Haus ist eine klassizistische Villa in der Lauerzenvorstadt in Aarau. Das Haus wurde 1831 bis 1834 für den Verleger Heinrich Remigius Sauerländer gebaut. Der Architekt des Hauses ist nicht bekannt; man vermutet Kantonsbaumeister Franz Heinrich Hemmann. Das dreistöckige Gebäude mit Walmdach passt sich stilistisch stark an die unmittelbare Umgebung an, obwohl diese durchwegs einige Jahrzehnte älter ist.
Das Haus diente als Hauptsitz des Sauerländer Verlags, der bis 2001 in Familienbesitz war und heute zur Cornelsen Verlagsgruppe gehört. 2004 verliess der Verlag das Gebäude, das heute von verschiedenen Kleinbetrieben genutzt wird.
